The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.
The one-time leader was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" were revealed.

Context of Sentencing
He was convicted of heading a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the presidential race to his left-wing rival, Lula.
High Court judges said that he was aware of a plan which encompassed plans to murder his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the Supreme Court justice who has been overseeing the former president's case.
